The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation and the City of Quinte West join with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) to proudly acknowledge the outstanding contributions of our local family doctors and the highly valued relationships they have with their patients and our community. This week from November 6-11, 2017 is Family Doctor Week in Canada. It is an opportunity for the public to acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by family doctors to improve the health and well-being of their patients.
In Quinte West we have many wonderful family physicians that make personal sacrifices daily to ensure that your family receives the highest possible standards in medical care. The TMH Foundation and City of Quinte West want to thank these doctors for their commitment to their patients. Some of these doctors work at the Quinte West Family Health Team, some have their own personal practices, and some also work another specialty in the hospital (ER, OR, Inpatient Unit etc.). Wherever they are, they are making our community a healthier place to live. These professionals are committed to maintaining the good health of your family as they provide extraordinary care.
This past July, the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, released a report that mapped the distribution of primary care physicians. The report found most are located in the greater Toronto area and other urban areas such as Ottawa and Kingston. Unfortunately, the report charts the number of primary care doctors per population of 100,000. Quinte West averages between 21 and 40, far below the 107 Ontario average. Belleville was between 41 and 80. The City of Quinte West and TMH Foundation have teamed up to initiate a Physician Recruitment and Retention program to generate an interest in family physicians relocating here as well as ensuring the great family doctors that are here – Stay!
