Pita Pit – Major Atom
The Major Atom Pita Pit Red Devils participated in the Shanahan International Ice Hockey Tournament over the weekend. The boys took on the Nepean Raiders in their first game. Goals were scored by Deke Osterhout, assisted by Jake Sage and Evan Erwin, and Avery Wease, with a pass from Rylan McCormack. Lennox Stewart was solid in net in the 2-2 tie. They then played the Brampton 45s. The Red Devils had a great game, including goalie Liam Boyer, who earned a shutout in the 5-0 win. Goals came from McCormack (Alec Asimis, Sam Thompson, Erwin (Asimis, Osterhout), Wease (Osterhout), Carter Chadwick (Kayden Harmon and Owen Ferguson) and Thompson.
Day 2 started with a game versus the Buffalo Jr. Sabres. Boyer took the loss in net after Stewart left the game with an injury in the first period. The Red Devil’s lone goal came from Harmon (Erwin). The team faced the aptly named Don Mills Flyers in their last game of the tourney. Sage (Osterhout, Chadwick) and Erwin (Asimis, McCormack) scored and Boyer was in net for the loss.
On Deck: the Pita Pit boys travel to Cobourg on Saturday to play the Markham Waxers. Game time: 3 pm. They will then host the Barrie Jr. Colts on Sunday at 12:30 pm in Deseronto.
Madison Excavating – Minor Peewee
The Madison Excavating Minor Peewees were in Toronto this past weekend to participate in the Shanahan Tournament. Friday, game one had the boys on the ice for an early morning game verses the Hamilton Huskies. The Devils skated their way to a decisive 8-1 win. Game two of the day saw Quinte battle a physical game against the Ottawa Silver Seven. The team worked hard throughout the game and took their second win of the day as they skated to a 5-0 win.
Saturday morning, had the Devils face a tough game against the Toronto Marlies. Quinte would face some fast paced and skilled Marlies and be forced to take their first loss of the tournament, succumbing to a 7-2 loss. Game two Saturday pegged the Devils up against the fast footed Cleveland Barons. The Barons would managed only 2 goals to the Devils 5 and gave the Devils their third win of the tournament.
Hard work paid off as the Devils would earn a wild card spot in Sunday play. It would be a challenging match up as the Devils would face the top rated Mississauga Sens. The Devils would finish the tournament with a loss to the Sens 10-2.
On Deck: The Madison Excavating Minor Peewee Devils will play host to the Clarington Toros on Wednesday and Central Ontario on Saturday, both games at QSWC. Sunday, the Devils will take to the road to Peterborough to take on the Pete’s at the Evinrude.
Rhino Sports and Play – Novice
The Rhino Sports and Play Novice Red Devils finished the weekend with two tied games. Saturday’s game against the Richmond Hill Coyotes was a nail biter with no goals scored in the first period it was anyone’s game. The second period brought a little more excitement to the game with a single second period goal scored by Nate Rashotte, assisted by Brayden Davidson. The pace picked up in the third period with the last three goals bringing the game to a 4-4 tie. The scoring summary was as follows; Keegan Goulah assisted by Seth Scaletta and Jonas McCoy, Brayden Davidson assisted by Scaletta and McCoy, and Keegan Goulah assisted by Paxton Erskine. Goaltending duties were handled by Daniel Yeo. On Sunday Nov. 5, it was a 1-1 tie with Ajax-Pickering. The only goal for the Red Devils was scored by Assistant Captain Chase Cybulskie. Charlie Vos was between the pipes for Quinte.
Game Ready Hockey Development – Bantams
The Game Ready Development Bantams had three road games this past week; Kingston Frontenacs, North Central Predators, and the Barrie Colts. In Kingston, Dixon Grimes earned the shutout in the 3-0 win. Goals by Ben White, Nathanial Burelle, Luke Lapalm. Assists by Jett Butler (2), Daniel Michaud (2). Blake Maracle was awarded player of the game. Saturday the team travelled to North Central where they lost 5-3. Goals by Connor Brooks, Daniel Michaud, and Hunter Hall. Helpers went to Ben White (3), Luke Lapalm, Nathanial Burelle, and Daniel Michaud. Ethan Fraser was in net. On Sunday the Devils visited Barrie where they tied the Colts 4-4. Scoring for the Devils was Daniel Michaud (3) and Zack Brooks. Assists came from Alex Case (2), Gavin Camp, Ben White, and Zack Brooks. Dixon Grimes was in net.
Foley Bus Lines – Minor Bantam
The Foley Bus Lines Minor Bantams recorded two more wins this past week in ETA action against the Kingston Jr Frontenacs and the Whitby Wildcats.
On Wednesday Nov 1, the Red Devils hosted the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs at the QSWC. It was all Devils in this matchup. Noah Richard opened the scoring for the Devils in the second period on assists from Trevor Hoskin and Owen Beck. The Devils had a 1 to 0 lead going into the third period. Captain Dalyn Wakely found the back of the Fronts net on helpers from Corbin Roach and Aaron Brown early in the third, to make it a 2 to 0 game. Midway through the third Noah Richard scored his second of the game, assisted by Corbin Roach and Donovan McCoy. Richard would lite the lamp a third time for the hat trick on feeds from Trevor McDowell and Parker Stewart to give the Devils a 4 to 0 lead. Corbin Votary was near perfect in the Devils cage, as the shut out was spoiled with less than two minutes in the game, when Kingston scored their only goal. Final score was 4 to 1 for the Red Devils.
On Saturday Nov 4, the Foley Bus Lines Red Devils travelled to Whitby to take on the Wildcats at the McKinney Ice Centre. The Devils found themselves in a fast, back and forth game as teams traded goals continuously throughout the match. Whitby got on the board early just minutes into the game, but the Devils responded with a goal from Noah Richard to even things up. Assisting were Corbin Roach and Dalyn Wakely. The Wildcats would take the lead back midway through the first, but again the Devils responded with an unassisted goal by Cooper Matthews to even things at two. The first period ended with Whitby scoring with just minutes left to regain the lead by a score of 3 to 2. The Devils opened the scoring in the second, on another goal from Cooper Matthews, assisted by Aaron Brown and Dalyn Wakely, but the Wildcats responded again with a go-ahead goal, to make it a 4 to 3 game going into the third period. Early in the third; the Devils would even the game, on a goal from Donovan McCoy, assisted by Aaron Brown. Owen Beck lit the lamp just minutes later to give the Devils a one goal lead. Dalyn Wakely added another on a breakaway pass from Donovan McCoy to give the Devils a 6 to 4 lead. Whitby continued to press by adding another goal, but it wasn’t enough, as the Devils held on for the win, by a score of 6 to 5. Brady Spry and Corbin Votary shared the duties in the Devils cage.
On Deck: Next Action for the Foley Bus Lines Minor Bantams is this Saturday, Nov 12 as the Devils travel to Oshawa to play the Generals at the Legends Centre. Puck Drop scheduled for 6:15pm.
