Contamination of the soil on property near Trenton Memorial Hospital is the reason that a new multi-million dollar health hub will likely be built in downtown Trenton instead.
Several healthcare organizations, including the V.O.N. and the Belleville Quinte West Community Health Centre are partnering in the building of a health hub and the site by the hospital had been the location.
However, consultants have discovered an unknown amount of contamination on the property, and now the hub could be built where the Community Health Services Centre now sits on Murphy Street in the downtown.
Members of OurTMH and the TMH Foundation will protest at a meeting this afternoon in Belleville.
Mayor of Quinte West Jim Harrison says there are lots of problems with the downtown location as well, with one being parking.
Southeast LHIN CEO Paul Huras says a soil remediation project can be costly and would delay the project from becoming a reality.
