Significant rainfall expected Sunday into Monday.
Latest forecasts continue to show a low pressure system intensifying along the east coast of the United States and moving inland across southern Quebec on Monday. It is expected to become a strong fall storm.
Rain associated with this low pressure area is expected to arrive tonight and continue Sunday. It will likely become heavier Sunday night into Monday as the low approaches. Significant rainfall amounts are expected, with over 50 mm in 24 hours possible in many areas. Storm totals may in fact reach 75 to 100 mm by the time it tapers off during the day Monday.
There is some uncertainty as to how far west the heaviest rain will get on Sunday, however confidence is quite high that a large part of Eastern Ontario will receive significant rainfall. Warnings will likely be required as this event draws closer.
Gusty westerly winds are likely Monday in the wake of this weather system.
Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation. Rainfall warnings may be issued.
