The push is still on to get the next generation telecommunications technology, broadband service, to this area and all of Eastern Ontario.
Hastings County CAO Jim Pine, who helped direct the Eastern Ontario project to success, was in Toronto last week meeting with provincial officials to get the next $299 million project to the approval stage.
Pine says people are saying “hurry up”

He says it’s expected to be a government-private partnership with technology companies taking part.

Pine says private companies put up $63 million for the last broadband project.
Eastern Ontario wants to be part of what’s called the 5-G technology which would bring the next step in internet, such as refrigerators to cars using wireless internet technology.
Pine says “We are regularly asked to tell how we did it” referring to the first broadband step in eastern Ontario which was “so successful”.
EORN has done work for the province of Nova Scotia to help broadband strategy in Nova Scotia.
Pine points out, “The original Eastern Ontario Regional Network model message is out there. It was successful, organized, and delivered. Lots of interest from groups across the country.”
