A sea cadet from Belleville has returned from a trip of a lifetime on Canada’s west coast.
Stuart Lupenette is a member of Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 79 in Oshawa and was selected as one of just 64 cadets across the country to take part in a training program aboard the Canadian Force’s ORCA Class vessel Raven.
The Seamanship Deployment ran between October 15th and 21st, through BC’s Gulf Islands, with cadets enhancing their skills in navigation, engineering, maintenance and emergency response.
Among the activities were fire and man overboard drills, which Lupenette called “incredibly challenging”.
He added in a press release that he “had a lot of fun, made a lot of new friends and would recommend the Sea Cadet program to anyone”.
