A Trenton man has been sentenced in an animal cruelty case dating back to March of this year.
The Ontario SPCA was told about an animal in distress at a home in Trenton and found a five year-old German Shepherd-type dog with a raw sore on its back and missing most of its hair.
A vet’s examination showed the dog was suffering from a very treatable skin disorder and chronic ear infections, but its owner had neglected to get the issues treated.
Twenty-four year old Lonny Cooney pleaded guilty to a charge of permitting distress to an animal earlier this week and has been sentenced to a three year ban on owning animals.
He is also subject to random inspections by the OSPCA twice per year during that time.
Senior OSPCA Inspector Bonnie Bishop says “there is no excuse for failing to care for your animals and if you find yourself in that position, you should contact your local animal centre or humane society to discuss your options”.
