The Mayor of Quinte West is no fan of a proposal by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, or AMO, to raise the HST by 1% to help local councils upgrade more roads, bridges, and other municipal infrastructure.
Speaking at the kickoff event for Small Business Week at the Trent Port Marina, Mayor Jim Harrison said he will not support any attempt to take more money from hardworking taxpayers.
The mayor believes people should be demanding more efficient delivery of services from all 3 levels of government with the savings then being available for infrastructure work.
Last week, Prince Edward County council supported AMO’s efforts to find a way to find more money for municipalities.
