Life jackets were key in saving two boaters in the County early Sunday morning.
At 2:30 a.m., Prince Edward OPP officers were called to a home on Stinson Block Road to assist with an incident involving a sunken boat on Lake Ontario.
According to Prince Edward OPP, the home’s occupant awoke to knocking on his door where he found a man wet and in distress.
The man said he and some friends were out on Lake Ontario when their 17′ fibreglass boat sank and they ended up in the water approximately two miles off shore.
Initial information was relayed that more people were still out in the water but it was later clarified that only two dogs were on board when the boat sank and no other people.
The two 38-year old men were wearing life jackets which was critical in them making their way back to shore and surviving the incident. Ultimately one dog was located and the other is still missing.
