Four oak tree saplings, grown from acorns off trees in Vimy Ridge, are being planted around the region to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the famous battle.
MP Neil Ellis presented one of those saplings and helped to plant it at Albert College today.
The acorns were sent back from France by Canadian soldier Lieutenant Leslie Miller, who had them planted at his home in Scarborough, as a keepsake.
The other tree saplings will be planted at Bain Park in Trenton, Wellington Park in Prince Edward County and Belleville’s Memorial Park.
The saplings will be accompanied by commemorative plaques explaining their significance.
