Belleville’s Director of Recreation says the city has done all it needs to do at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre to be ready for the Belleville Senators hockey team’s first home game on November first.
Mark Fluhrer told city council Tuesday night that the suites are 100% ready, the dressing rooms and player areas will be ready “in advance of puck drop.”
When questioned about the concession areas, Fluhrer said that was up to the Senators’ agreement with the food service contractor.
He said “We’ve been ahead of schedule on the $20.5 million project with its tight timeline.”
Software
The city of Belleville has decided to make significant upgrades to its technology to better serve the general public.
Tuesday night city council approved the low tender of $262,000 from Legend Recreation Software Inc. for software automating recreation programs and facility bookings.
Director of Recreation Mark Fluhrer told council the software program runs the city’s recreation business, which represents millions of dollars a year.
Fluhrer said the program does the booking schedule for all events, will be more flexible and allow for new opportunities.
Council also decided to expand software from N. Harris Computer Corporation so automated record keeping can be used by the Bylaw Enforcement section.
Cycling path
Belleville city council has taken another step toward making the city more conducive to an active lifestyle.
Tuesday night, council approved a tender from Cooney Excavating Ltd. to build a 3 metre pedestrian/cycling path in the west end of the city.
Cooney’s tender came in at $480,000, the lowest of four, for a cycling path along Bridge Street West, from Yeomans Street to Centennial Park, which is just west of Palmer Road.
More time needed
Belleville has given developers more time to work through a complex, but major residential/commercial project in the city
In 2014, city council granted Toronto area company, East Marina Investments, draft plan of subdivision approval for the construction of three 15 storey condominium buildings along with commercial space on land formerly known as the Morch Marine property, near the Travelodge.
The developers, and local firm RFA Planning Consulting, continue to study solutions to potential flooding, environmental, and noise concerns on the property.
Last night council decided to extend the draft plan approval for another three-year term.
