Prince Edward County residents are rallying together to stop a controversial wind project from happening.
WPD’s Canada’s White Pines Wind Project involves erecting nine 150m-tall (500 ft.) industrial wind turbines in and around the hamlet of Milford in the ward of South Marysburgh.
Protestors say they believe industrial wind turbine projects disrupt the livelihoods of County residents, destroy the County’s historic landscape and cause irreparable harm to the county’s wildlife and natural environment.
Logistics coordinator for the rally Les Stanfield, hopes that this rally “will motivate the government to cancel the project once and for all.”
He adds that participants should be creative in their messages to WPD and Queen’s Park.
Those wanting to participate in the rally can gather at the end of Cold Storage Road at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 for a 1 p.m. departure or join in at any point on the route through Main Street in Picton. An information session will be held at 2 p.m. inside the Regent Theatre.
