Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee is recommending city council approve a developer’s changed plans for part of
the big Potter’s Creek housing development in the west end of the city.
In 2008, phases 7 and 8 were approved for 110 single family homes, plus 4 townhouses, for a total of 114 residential units.
Now, the developers hope to up that number to 153 residences, consisting of 62 single family homes, 44 semi-detached, 14 duplexes, and 33 townhouses. Some of the townhouses will be 2 storeys, others will be bungalows.
The developers have changed the mix of housing due to changing demands in the marketplace. Upping the density of the subdivision dovetails with both the municipality’s and provincial government’s desire for more intense housing developments in urban areas.
Some residents of the existing Hastings Park subdivision next door to phases 7 and 8 had concerns with traffic flow because of the extra residences, but city staff said the subdivision’s road network should easily handle the volume in the development.
City council will make the final decision on the rezoning necessary to allow the proposed changes.
