There is good news as far as the local environment is concerned.
Fish populations in the Bay of Quinte are both healthy and diverse.
Since 1972, Fisheries and Oceans Canada has been monitoring and testing the fish in the bay.
Recently, an electrofishing boat has been used to temporarily stun fish so they can be collected, identified and measured, and then released unharmed. The technology has been used in various parts of the bay over the years and it’s found fish populations are in good shape.
According to the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan, the “environmental challenge” to fish in the bay is in the process of being upgraded to “unimpaired”, which essentially means there are no problems.
