PC MPP Todd Smith says if his party wins next year’s provincial election, it would scrap the Green Energy Act and deal with what he says is an over-supply of renewable energy.
Smith spoke to the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce members at a luncheon this afternoon and says there are far too many electricity producers in Ontario and they’re getting paid way too much.
He tells Quinte News, the province is wasting electricity and it’s costing business owners.
He adds that various provincial government legislations are having a cumulative negative impact on small businesses, noting that it’s more than just energy prices making an impact.
Smith has been touring around the province and holding his own discussions for the last few months, about how business owners are dealing with the electricity costs.
He says the concerns are similar right across the province, with rural business owners feeling the pinch slightly more, because of the cost of delivery charges.
Smith also noted that larger facilities like hospitals, long term care homes and even arenas are feeling the pressure as well and that provincial cash awarded to those facilities for improvements and programming are being wasted on hydro bills.
