Neither Belleville’s mayor or police chief are saying much about a complaint made to the Ontario Independent Police Review Director.
Mayor Taso Christopher addressed media following Thursday morning’s police board meeting and says the board has discussed the issue and sent it back to the OIPRD.
Chief Ron Gignac also spoke to reporters and says he believes in the review process and will wait to see what the OIPRD has to say.
The complaint stemmed from a comment made by the chief, when he suggested that public safety was more important than a Charter of Rights and Freedoms violation.
No word on when the OIPRD will come back with any decisions.
