There was another impassioned plea to Prince Edward County council last night (Tuesday) about keeping the heritage building at 2 Ross Street in Picton, the old fire hall and town hall, in public hands.
Lynne Rochon of the citizens group Save Our Picton Town Hall told council the building should be kept for community groups and as a small marketplace and entertainment venue, and not sold to the private sector.
Save Our Picton Town Hall believes another expensive restaurant or residential development for the wealthy and tourists wouldn’t serve the wider community’s best interests.
The group asked council to extend the deadline for a decision on the sale of the building so it could have time to present a detailed business plan.
In the end, council voted to give the group an extra six months to present a plan for the building after other proposals have been received by an as yet to be established deadline.
