There are some serious capacity concerns for Quinte Health Care.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, the board heard of the very busy summer, typically a quieter time of year.
Chief Nursing Officer Carol Smith-Romeril presented an update to members, showing a 12-15 percent increase over normal. She says at times it went as high as 30 percent.
She explains how they came to the conclusion.
She says this is not a QHC problem, but an issue province and nationwide.
Smith-Romeril says at times, they have been so over capacity, patients are being sent to another hospital, which may be better for their overall health.
Chief of Staff Doctor Dick Zoutman says admission has to be seriously looked at, but it cannot let money dictate care.
QHC CEO Mary Clare Egberts says the medicine unit at BGH is the busiest place for QHC.
