Fire destroyed a house in Picton yesterday afternoon.
Prince Edward County Fire Chief Scott Manlow says firefighters arrived to find flames at the rear of the house at 32 Talbot Street, near downtown Picton.
No one was home at the time, but firefighters tried to rescue 3 pets, but couldn’t because of the dense smoke. The pets perished in the blaze.
One firefighter was taken to hospital for treatment of heat exhaustion as crews fought the fire in record high temperatures.
About $250,000 damage was done to the home, and the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.
