While it’s not a prevalent problem within the Hastings and Prince Edward School Board, the issue of human trafficking is affecting many communities and the board wants to take a proactive approach.
Director of Education Mandy Savery-Whiteway tells Quinte News it’s about getting the message out to students and families, working with local police agencies and taking a proactive approach.
She says board members and staff took part in a recent training session with OPP, to help spot the signs of human trafficking, to help out students who may possibly be in that unfortunate situation.
Savery-Whiteway adds it’s really just the beginning of these conversations but they expect to learn more about the issue in the coming months.
