Quinte West firefighters observed a moment of silence Monday morning in honour of those killed during the 9/11 attacks 16 years ago.
A small ceremony was held at Station 1 in Trenton, to remember the nearly 3,000 people, including emergency responders who were killed on September 11, 2001 when hijackers flew commercial airplanes into New York City’s World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
On Monday night, Fire Chief John Whalen told Quinte West council the volunteer and full-time firefighters gathered at 8:46 a.m. for a moment of silence and reflection.
Chief Whalen said he’s proud his men and women honour the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and 8 paramedics killed in the terrorist attack.
During Quinte West council’s moment of silence reflection at the beginning of the meeting, city clerk Kevin Heath also offered thoughts and condolences to the victims and their families.
