The marina business in the Quinte region is getting hyper competitive.
On Wednesday, Quinte West’s Corporate Finance Committee voted to recommend
council approve an incentive program to both keep seasonal boaters and to attract new
ones to the still shiny Trent Port Marina on the mouth of the Trent River.
The city’s Manager of Buildings and Facilities, Bob Forder, told the committee that
several other competing marinas in the region have offered price breaks to boaters
for committing early to docking for the upcoming season.
He suggested it was imperative to offer incentives to stay in the game, and the committee agreed.
This boating season (2017), the Trent Port Marina experienced a surge in the number of seasonal boaters using slips, at 170.
However, some of the increase had to be attributed to spring flooding that forced some other marinas to not be able to open.
