After a 2 year hiatus, the Belleville and Bay of Quinte Plein Air Festival is coming back, and it will be bigger and
better than ever.
The festival will run Thursday, September 7 through Sunday September 10.
The main feature of the Plein Air Festival, as always, will be artists, both local and from outside the region, competing while creating works of art in the out of doors.
Executive Director of the Quinte Arts Council, Carol Feeney, says artists will work in various locations, including the downtown, along the shores of the Bay of Quinte, the Old East Hill, and other specified sites, including some outside the urban area.
The competition begins on the Thursday and there will be an opening reception Friday at 5:30 at Dinkel’s featuring entertainment from members of the Quinte Symphony. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge.
However the festival’s biggest day will be Saturday, September 9. Most of the action will be centred in “The Village” downtown. Stages will be set up in the riverside parking lot across from Belleville City Hall, on the Bernice Parrott Stage in Market Square behind City Hall, and in space near the public library on Pinnacle Street.
The public will see artists at work, artists selling their creations, artisans exhibiting their wares, and musicians of all kinds entertaining throughout the day Saturday on all three stages.
Judging of the artwork will take place on Sunday. Cash prizes will be awarded at a reception open to the public starting at 1 o’clock at the Belleville Public Library in the John M. Parrott Gallery on the third floor.
All of the artwork created at the Belleville and Bay of Quinte Plein Air Festival will be on display in the gallery at the library for two weeks after the event.
Again, there is no charge to enjoy the Belleville Bay of Quinte Plein Air Festival.
