Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has found that there are no grounds for charges against the OPP after an incident in which a 26-year-old man shot himself inside a home in Bancroft.
On April 25 of last year, Bancroft OPP received reports of an assault and threatening behaviour against the man’s common-law wife.
Officers, including those from a tactical unit arrived at the residence near Highway 28 and Egan Chutes Provincial Park.
Police did not enter the residence, believing the man could be heavily armed.
A loud bang was heard emanating from the residence after their arrival..
OPP entered the residence and found the body of the man.
