Police have laid serious charges including manslaughter against a 16-year-old boy from Belleville in connection with a fatal collision on Sunday.
On August 27 at 1:20 a.m., Napanee OPP, Traffic Collision Investigators and Forensic Identification Services Unit, with assistance from Belleville Police Service, paramedics and fire department, attended a collision involving two vehicles in the area of Cannifton Road and mile marker 544, Highway 401 eastbound.
The investigation has revealed that a pickup truck, being driven by a 16-year-old teen, was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 and collided with an eastbound vehicle.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 30-year-old man from Dryden remains in hospital with serious injuries and his passenger, a 30-year-old woman from Loyalist Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The teen who cannot be named pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act is charged with Manslaughter, Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm and Theft Over $5000 of a Motor Vehicle.
He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on September 1, 2017 for a Bail Hearing.
The Napanee OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Peter Donnelly of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), will be continuing with the investigation.
