The Trenton Golden Hawks have announced their leadership group for the 2017-18 Ontario Junior Hockey League season.
Overage forward Mac Lewis has been named team captain, succeeding co-captains Lucas Brown and Josh Allan from last season.
The Uxbridge, Ont. native is entering into his third season as a member of the Golden Hawks following an 18-goal, 36-point campaign in 50 games in 2016-17. That was a 26-point jump from his first year with the club, where he managed to record 10 points in 51 games played.
In addition, fellow returnees Brandon Marinelli and Michael Silveri have been appointed assistant captains for the season.
The Toronto-born Marinelli made great strides on the blueline in his sophomore OJHL campaign. He posted 36 points in 52 regular season games and added 14 points in 21 games in the playoffs.
Silveri, a North Bay product, finished in the top 5 in team scoring last season with 45 points, including 21 goals. He capped off his first season as a Golden Hawks with 14 points in 21 playoff games and scored the game-winning goal in the Dudley Hewitt Cup Final on home ice in May.
Golden Hawks head coach/GM Marty Abrams says the three veterans will provide a wealth of championship experience to the club and set a winning example for the rest of the team.
G-Hawks fans can watch these players and the rest of the team at home this Friday in their final preseason action versus their East Division rivals, the Cobourg Cougars.
