Belleville has wrapped up day one of a two-day strategy session at the River Inn in Corbyville.
Belleville city council spent the day, Wednesday, taking a close look at the vision for the city 15 to 20 years down the road, and what would be needed in terms of infrastructure and other services.
Mayor Taso Christopher, in a scrum with Quinte News, referred to the lengthy report from the engineering department indicating huge requirements for road construction and maintenance.
He said council needs that kind of information for its upcoming budget planning.
Councillor Paul Carr raised the issue of requiring developers to provide mixed housing in their developments and said it would help attract people into the job market.
Director of Engineering Rod Bovay indicated that this could be put into the official plan.
Christopher pointed out that one of the challenges facing the city in terms of economic development is the split in hydro service throughout the city between Veridian and Hydro One, with Veridian being cheaper. He said this affected development of the casino since it was at the edge of the Veridian/Hydro One services.
