Belleville will go ahead with a $3.7 million project, including renovation of its building to consolidate a number of services at one location.
The building at 31 Wallbridge Crescent will be used to consolidate the city’s environmental operations at one site. It also makes way for the police building at the Veridian site on College Street.
At city council Monday night, some councillors questioned the renovation project, expressing concern about additional costs. Councillor Paul Carr said he was “flabbgergasted the city would take on a project and dole out money as it proceeds.” Carr said he supported the original $2 million but now the city is dealing with the unknown. He said it’s a “never ending hole.”
Councillor Jack Miller pointed out the building will house park services, public works, and water services.

Council awarded the contract to Tom Belch and Sons for $2.43 million, for demolition and renovation.
