The OPP has provided more information regarding today’s early morning tragedy on the 401 eastbound near the Highway 37 interchange in Belleville.
Police say a pickup traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes shortly after 1 in the morning (Sunday) collided head on with with a Subaru brand car.
Both vehicles burst into flames.
A 30 year old woman from Loyalist Township, east of Napanee, a passenger in the Subaru died at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 30 year old man from Dryden, was taken to a hospital in Kingston with serious injuries.
The driver of the wrong way truck, a 16 year old boy from Belleville, was taken to hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
The OPP is investigating the collision as a criminal matter.
Belleville firefighters, Belleville police, OPP, and Emergency Services paramedics responded.
The 401 east around Highway 37 was closed until 10:40 this morning (Sunday).
