Another step has been taken in the complex procedure for the development of a Community Health Hub in Trenton but there’s still no site for the Hub.
At Monday’s meeting, the Southeast Local Health Integration Network board of directors endorsed the first stage of application for provincial funding for development of the centre to provide health services in the Brighton and Quinte West region.
CEO Paul Huras says the idea had been to have it part of Trenton Memorial Hospital but after renovations it was realized there was not enough space, and to add onto the hospital building “was problematic.”
Huras says, now, two sites are being considered.
Huras hopes the Hub can be up and running in 12 to 24 months.
The Hub will include primary care, health promotion, addictions and mental health service, and community support services, creating an integrated patient-centred system of care.
The LHIN board endorsement allows the development of the Trenton Community Health Hub to go forward to the Ministry of Heath for its approval.
Huras says the hub will help provide more effective integrated health care services.
