The public health unit that serves Northumberland County is issuing a warning about the dangers of rabies disease.
Last year the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge health unit investigated a total of 514 animal bite cases throughout its area.
Public health inspector Md Azad says that, during the summer people, including children, are more exposed to wild and domestic animals.
He encourages people to be careful around wild animals and pets because one simple bite or scratch can put a person at risk of exposure to rabies.
