
Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, Prince Edward OPP officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Loyalist Parkway just north of Rosehall.
The vehicle left the roadway and rolled onto the front lawn of a residence, one passenger was ejected and seriously injured. The other two occupants remained within the vehicle and received minor injuries.
The two female passengers ages 18 and 20 are from the Kingston area. The 20-year-old remains in Belleville General Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.
The 19-year-old driver also from Kingston area had been consuming alcohol and was arrested.
Subsequent breath samples confirmed her blood alcohol was in excess of the legal limit of 80mgs.
Madison Roy will attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on August 16 to answer to the charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle causing Bodily Harm and Operate Over 80mgs causing Bodily Harm.
Roy’s licence has been suspended for 90 days. Her heavily damaged vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
While the investigation of the collision was underway, another drinking driver was removed from the road when she failed a roadside test.
A Prince Edward OPP officer at the collision sight could smell alcohol on the breath of a vehicle driver that had approached the scene.
The driver registered a “Warn” on the Roadside Alcohol Screening Device. A 48-year-old woman from Kingston was issued a three day licence suspension.
Second Impaired Driver Arrested
Less than two hours after the serious collision a second impaired driver was removed from the road at 3:30 a.m. when a Prince Edward OPP officer was patrolling Main Street in Wellington.
The officer observed a vehicle being driven erratically and squealing its tires. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver smelled of alcohol. A roadside test was conducted which the driver failed and he was subsequently arrested.
Further testing at the detachment confirmed the driver’s blood alcohol was in excess of the legal limit of 80mgs.
Twenty-five year old Hayes Sorenson of Athol Township in Prince Edward County is charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operate Over 80mgs and Stunt Driving.
His licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days.
Sorenson will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice Picton on August 23 to answer to the charges.
