The County’s junior hockey club is gearing up for the 2017-18 season with a trio of signings.
The Wellington Dukes announced yesterday that local products Daniel Panetta and Zach Uens will be joining the team for the upcoming season, along with Sudbury native Jacob Burton.
The 16-year old Panetta was captain of the Quinte Red Devils Minor Midgets last season, scoring 51 points in 35 games. He becomes the third Panetta brother to suit up for the Dukes, following brothers Jacob and Matthew. He was also a fourth round draft pick of the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League draft in April.
Uens, also 16, posted 21 points in 35 games with the Minor Midget Red Devils last season. He also got into two games as an affliate with the Dukes. He was taken one pick after Panetta by the Flint Firebirds in the OHL draft.
18-year old Burton tore up the Northern Midget circuit last season, posted a league-high 84 points in just 36 games for the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.
Dukes GM Ryan Woodward says he is thrilled to bring the three players aboard and is happy that they have chosen to continue their hockey development in Wellington.
