A local manufacturing plant, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, is taking part in an initiative that is helping to reduce electricity costs.
Minister of Energy Glenn Thibeault was on hand at Procter & Gamble in Belleville to make the announcement that P&G will be taking part in the Industrial Conservation Initiative, under Ontario’s Fair Hydro Plan.
The ICI allows large electricity users to lower their costs by up to one-third when they reduce their energy use during peak hours.
In addition, Ontario’s Fair Hydro Plan is helping to reduce electricity costs for households in the province by 25 percent on average.
The program expanded earlier this month to provide electricity bill reductions to more businesses and organizations across the province.
Thibeault says this is a win for all involved.
Northumberland-Quinte West MPP Lou Rinaldi was also there and says this initiative will help manage energy not just for businesses, but for residental home owners as well.
Mark Leakey, Operations Leader at the P&G Belleville plant, explains a bit about what they are doing to conserve energy and electricity consumption within the plant.
Also assisting with this initiative is local energy company Veridian Connections.
