A 23-year-old Quinte West man and three youths are facing serious charges in connection with an armed robbery in Tyendinaga Territory over the weekend.
On Saturday at 1:30 a.m., officers with the Tyendinaga Police Service and the Napanee Ontario Provincial Police responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery at a business located on Highway 2 that is open 24 hours a day.
It was reported to police that two male suspects entered the store, wearing masks and brandishing weapons. It is alleged that the two stole cigarettes, fireworks and cash. They fled on foot and disappeared into the darkness. The investigation later revealed the suspects left the scene in a silver SUV.
The following night officers were dispatched to a disturbance call in Picton. The officers responding recognized the man involved as the wanted party in the armed robbery. Cody Barker is charged with robbery using a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with probation.
The other three boys involved are 15 and 16 years of age and cannot be named as their identities are protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Two of the three were arrested over the weekend; there is an arrest warrant for the third. The youths face the following charges: robbery using a firearm, robbery using a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Barker and one of the youths were held for Bail Court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Monday July 24, 2017.
