A former Belleville Bulls goaltender has died, following a crash last week in Toronto.
On Friday (July 7th), reports indicate a car ran into the back of a big rig on the 401, near the 404 in the east end of the GTA.
John Chartrand, the lone occupant of the car, was said to have been killed. Chartrand turned 24 on Friday. Reports to 680 News out of Toronto say the crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. Friday morning.
The former Niagara Ice Dogs netminder laced them up for 22 games for the Belleville Bulls during the 2011-12 season.
Following his playing in the OHL, Chartrand played CIS hockey for Nipissing University.
In 2012, Chartrand was part of the lawsuit against the Barrie Colts (former team). In the Statement of Claim, he alleged his team cleared him to play, following a concussion, from a serious car crash he was in.
