While the provincial government has put a moratorium on closing any more schools in Ontario, a local MPP says something should have been done sooner.
Todd Smith reacted to the moratorium announcement by telling Quinte News, the Liberals are just back-tracking, after pushing through hundreds of school closures province-wide already.
Education Minister Mitzie Hunter announced the ban today saying the government will overhaul the school closure process, in an effort to strengthen rural and northern education, but Smith says the move is just a ploy to get votes ahead of next year’s election.

NDP education critic Peggy Sattler agreed that the announcement is “cold comfort” to communities already affected by school closure.
