The rain scared some people away, but close to 200 people took part in Belleville’s Relay for Life overnight Friday.
Around $53,000. was raised, less than at last year’s Belleville event.
However, overall, the various relays in all of the communities in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties have raised $328,000, close to the $360,000 goal and not all funds raised have been accounted for yet.
Jessica Klein, Community Fundraising Specialist with the Canadian Cancer Society, says an event like this truly brings the community together, and is even more special for cancer survivors.
Money raised goes toward cancer research and local programs such as Wheels of Hope.
The Belleville Relay for Life was held at Loyalist College.
