Hundreds of children in Hastings-Quinte social housing will have the opportunity to participate in summer day camps again this year.
The Community and Human Services committee is recommending that a total of $52,000 be approved for the Backyard Bonanza summer day camp program.
These are free day camps for children between the ages of four and 12 who reside in social housing neighbourhoods in Belleville and Quinte West.
A total of 386 children participated last summer.
The cost of $33,000 will pay for staffing, bus tickets, supplies and uniforms for camp counsellors and participants at six Belleville sites.
Another $22,000 will pay for the same expenses at four Quinte West camps.
Officials say the backyard bonanza camps mirror camps offered by the two municipalities.
The issue goes to Hastings County council for approval later this month.
