A prominent member of the Tyendinaga Mohawk community will be named to the Order of Canada on Monday.
Sylvia Maracle is the Executive Director of the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres, and will be appointed to the Order of Canada along with all of the members of the Tragically Hip and several others.
Sylvia Maracle has been involved with “friendship centres” for over 40 years and has led in making improvements to justice, health, housing and women’s rights for urban indigenous peoples.
