In a day primarily set for preliminaries, the Ontario High School Track and Field Championships got underway in Belleville. More than 2000 athletes are in the city for the 3 day event which is one of the three largest in North America. There were finals in 7 field events on day one.
Most of the 18 local high school athletes in 27 individual events and three teams will be in competition today. Nicholson’s Nate St. Romaine won’t be one of them. Romaine is ranked number one in Ontario in the Senior Boys’ 400 metre hurdles event which is tomorrow. The Bruce Faulds track is home for St. Romaine, but:
