An event more than a year in the planning starts today at the Bruce Faulds Track at Mary Ann Sills Park.
Belleville hosts more than 2000 young athletes from across the Province for the Ontario High School Track and Field Championships. This is one of the 3 largest such events in North America.
Even though he’s been competing in the event for just two years, Nathaniel St. Romaine from Nicholson Catholic College is ranked number 1 in Ontario in the 400 metre hurdles.
Brothers Sam and Jared lead a large contingent from track and field powerhouse East Northumberland Secondary School. The Blue Dragons have won 30 consecutive Bay of Quinte track and field titles. The elder Sam is ranked number one in Canada in his age group in the high jump.
Jared Hall will compete in 3 individual events including the triple jump, long jump and 100 metres. Jared offers his thoughts on why E.N.S.S. is so good year after year.
The OFSAA Track and Field Championships start this afternoon and runs through Saturday.
