A piece of land which was at the centre of a controversy last fall, has been sold.
Quinte News has learned that a piece of property owned by Mayor Taso Christopher and his brother Ike, has been privately sold to a developer.
Ike Christopher tells us the land is located on the north east corner of Farnham Road and Maitland Drive in Belleville’s Thurlow ward (427 Farnham Road). He says the sale of the land will close at the end of June.
Ike Christopher says the property was going to be expropriated by the City of Belleville, however he sold it to the current developer, who is aware of the municipality’s intentions.
The land sale is to close just before a hearing in Kingston, which will determine whether or not Mayor Christopher was in a conflict of interest when he voted on a city project, which involved the property.

The property sale will not have anything to do with the court proceeding, which is June 30th in Kingston.
