15 days after being hired as head coach of the Timmins Rock of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, Picton native Ryan Woodward has been fired.
In a story by Thomas Perry of the Timmins Press Rock president Ted Gooch would not discuss reasons behind the decision other than to say it was not hockey related. Gooch added that it was a serious enough situation that the team’s Board of Directors deemed it necessary to take action.
Woodward coached the Picton Pirates to the Ontario Junior “C” Championship in 2013. He has been an assistant to Marty Abrams with the Wellington Dukes for the past two seasons. Abrams says he had already begun the process to hire a new assistant to replace Woodward although no announcements have been made yet. Meahwhile Abrams expects his second assistant coach Kyle Hawkins-Schultz to return next season.
Woodward was also the co-captain of the Dukes when they won the Buckland Cup and the Dudley Hewitt Cup and played in the RBC National Champioship in 2003.
