These are busy times in high school sports as seasons start to wind down.
The Prince Edward Collegiate Panthers have won their 5th consecutive Bay of Quinte Baseball title with a 2-0 victory over the Centre Hastings Centurions. Iain Cameron drove in both runs while Braden Kelly and Dan Seguin combined on a no hitter.
It’s a short turn-around for the Panthers as they defend their COSSA title against the Crestwood Mustangs this afternoon at Trent University in Peterborough.
The Central Ontario High School Rugby “AA” Championships will be decided at St. Mary Secondary in Cobourg today. The Bayside Red Devils and Centennial Chargers meet Kawartha schools in the Junior Semi Finals. Centennial and the Trenton Tigers do likewise in the Senior Semis.
The third step toward the Ontario High School Track and Field Championships which will be held in Belleville next week, takes place tomorrow in Ottawa.
Local athletes will be led by Sarah Kay of St. Theresa Secondary. She won the senior 100, 200 and 400 metre events at the Central Ontario Championships. Jared Hall of East Northumberland Secondary School won the junior 100, the long jump and triple jump events. And Jacob Gilbert of E.N.S.S. was also a triple winner in the 200, 400 and the long jump.
