UPDATE @ 12:45 p.m.: A superintendent with the Hastings and Prince Edward School board says she can’t comment publicly on any human resources matters and therefore isn’t confirming some layoffs within the board recently.
Social media reports say eight people were laid off from their jobs as office managers at local high schools.
Superintendent of Human Resources Trish Fitzgibbon tells Quinte News, the board tries to make staffing changes through attrition and retirement when they’re needed, but that’s not always possible.
Fitzgibbon added the board will likely continue to face significant financial challenges for the next three years, or so.
