The City of Belleville is expanding its popular community gardens program, thanks to a donation from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and a donation of fabric from Battlefield Equipment.
The donation has allowed the city to expand to a total of 89 plots at three separate locations around the city, the newest at the Bayview Heights Community Garden in the east end.
The other community gardens are at Ponton Park on Dundas Street and the West Hill green space on Octavia Street.
The plots are assigned by a lottery draw every year and community members use them to plant vegetables and herbs.
The new beds are made of rough-cut cedar and include water taps as well.
