A local not-for-profit, charitable home and community care organization is ringing in a major milestone this year and there will be events happening throughout the region this fall.
The Victorian Order of Nurses is getting ready to celebrate 100 years. Since 1897, the VON has been offering home care, personal support and community services to enhance its clients’ quality of life across the country. Locally the VON has been offering services to Hastings, Northumberland and Prince Edward Counties since 1917. Over 400 local staff and 300 volunteers also work to provide programs such as fitness for seniors, fall prevention and stroke recovery exercises throughout the three counties.
On Thursday, Julia Gosson, manager of Fund Development at VON and board member Johanna March asked Prince Edward County’s committee of the whole to support an upcoming celebration in October.
More details such as venues and times are coming Gosson said.
The committee also approved declaring next week VON week in the County.
