He had an incredible year thousands of miles away from his hometown but tonight University volleyball star Blake Scheerhoorn will be honoured with the Robinson-Kelleher Memorial Award as Belleville’s 2016 Athlete of the Year.
The 22 year old Quinte Christian High School graduate has attended Trinity Western University in Langley B.C. for four years where he led the Spartans to the Canadian Volleyball Championship in 2016. Trinity defeated host McMaster in the final in Hamilton. Scheerhoorn was named the tournament MVP. Scheerhoorn says it was like playing at home.
Scheerhoorn is back east in Gatineau Quebec.
Scheerhoorn will receive the Robinson Kelleher Memorial Award during Belleville’s Honours and Awards Ceremony tonight (Wed) at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
