It’s no secret that downtown Belleville has experienced tough times lately.
At its meeting Monday, city council will see a staff report showing that assessment values
on properties in the downtown core dropped by almost $2.8 million last year, totalling close to $42 million.
That has led to the Belleville Downtown Improvement Area board reducing its budget for this year by $30,000 to $230,000.
In the new year, Quinte News found 37 out of 105 storefronts in downtown Belleville to be vacant, which leads to changes in assessment.
Belleville council meets Monday at 4 o’clock at city hall.
